Scenic Drives
Ajo Mountain Drive
21 miles in this scenic loop drive through the Organ Pipe Cactus national Monument. The Drive starts at State Route 85, near the visitors monument center, *Note*: most of the road is one way. The graded dirt road meanders through rugged mountains, with spectactular views, in the cactus filled landscape.
Apache Trail Scenic Byway
This 39 mile route begins in Apache Junction and ends at the Roosevelt Dam. This drive on both paved and unpaved roads, offers access to Apache and Canyon lakes and ends at Roosevelt Dam, one of America's largest Masonry dams.
Black Hills Back Country Byway
A 21 mile route beginning on Old Safford Road will bring you out South of Clifton. The unpaved road provides access to the eastern end of the Gila Box Riparian National Cnservation Area. Two wheel/4wheel drive high clearance vehicle recommended.
Canyon de Chelly - North Rim Drive
This 17 mile route begins in Chinle and winds up at the Massacre Cave Overlook. Indian Reservation Route 64 follows the canyon rim contour, leading to the scenic ruins of Antelope House and Mummy Cave, spectacular canyon overlooks and towering canyon walls.
Canyon de Chelly - South Rim Drive
18 paved miles of incredable southwest scenery and Indian ruins. Starting in Chinle and ending at the Spider Rock Overlook. Good canyon and ruins are viewed from Indian Reservation route 7. Be sure to see White House ruin!
Chiricahua National Monument
A spectacular 40 miles starting in Willcox and ending in the Chiricahua National Monument. Year around and paved, State Route 186 winds from Willcox, through Dos Cabezas to State Route 181, East to the National Monument.
Coronado Trail Scenic Byway
123 miles long starting in Springerville and ending in Clifton. US Route 191 follows the trail of Spanish Explorer Coronado. Winding and narrow road forces a leisurely pace through an area of dramatic and varied terrain. Great views of the Sonoran Desert, the White Mountains and the Mogollion Rim.
Historic Route 66 - National Backcountry Trail
A nostalgic byway 42 miles long, a section of the "Main Street of America". Access the highway from Interstate 40 and enjoy the winding road through the Black Mountains.
Kaibab Plateau - North Rim Parkway
44 miles in length, starting at Jacob Lake, take your time and enjoy winding along the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Paved state route 67 passes through dense pine forests and alpine meadows, leading to the dramatic scenery of the Grand Canyon.
Mount Lemmon - General Hitchcock Highway
24 miles long beginning in the Coronado National Forest and ending up in Mt. Lemmon. this Paved, winding mountainous route into the Coronado National Forest and Santa atalina Mountains winds it way to Mt. Lemmon at 9157' One of Arizona's great ski destinations.
Oak Creek Canyon
A beautiful 88 mile loop starting and ending in Flagstaff. This winding loop stretches through the Sedona and Red Rocks region towards Phoenix. The route follows State Routes 89A and 179 as well as Interstate 17.
Petrified Forest National Park
27 miles from the North entrance on Hwy 40, to the South Entrance on State Hwy 180. Drive through the Painted Desert and stop at the many pull offs to view the spectacular geology and the remains of America's world famous Petrified Forest.
Pinal Pioneer Parkway
42 miles from Florence to Oricle Jct. A beautiful drive "the back way" from Phoenix to Tucson. McFarland Historical State Park and Tom Mix Memorial.
Puerto Blanco Drive
A beautiful 53 mile drive through the Organ Pipe national Monument and ending North of Lukeville. Starting at the Monument visitor center, the graded dirt road meanders through desert terrain of craggy mountains and giant saguaro and organ pipe cacti. Spring blossoms are spectacular!
Rim Road
This 54 mile loop road starts and ends at Clint's Well. Drive parallels a section fo the Mogollion Rim and follows General George Croos Trail. Many ovelooks along the rim. From State Route 87 North follow Forest Road's 95, 96, 321, and 300 then back to Clint's Well via State Routes 260 and 87.
Sunset Crater and Wupatki Road
This is a 70 mile loop from Flagstaff. You will see colorful volcanic craters and ancient Indian ruins as the centerpiece of this paved routed winding through the high desert and beautiful volcanic landscape.
Swift Trail Parkway
A 35 mile route from State Route 366 south of Safford to Riggs Lake. This Forested route through the Pinaleno Mountains to Riggs Lake and recreation area takes you up to 8,600'. Mostly paved with the last 7 miles improved gravel. Side roads lead to Mt. Grahm 10,017', you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the region from lookout towers on Heiliograph and Webb peaks.
White Mountain Scenic Byway
123 miles from Whiteriver to Alpine, mostly paved two lane highway. Travel through the Apache - Sitgreaves national Forest with many lakes and mountain streams. Great views of Mt. Baldy and other peaks formed by ancient volcanic activity. The route combines State Routes 73, 273, 261, and 260.
