Scenic Byways
Bear Lake - Caribou National Scenic Byway
Starting at the Utah border on U.S. Hwy. 89 This 111 mile drive takes you along the West shore of Bear Lake and through the Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge to Soda Springs. Then North on Route 34 by Henry's Lake and through the Greys Lake National Wildlife Refuge and East to the Wyoming Border.
Clearwater Canyon Scenic Route
Starting in Spalding this 90 mile trip follows U.S. Route 12 and State Route 13 from Spalding to Grangeville.
The Elk City Wagon Road
Starting in Harpster this scenic 53 mile long road once led miners to Elk City and the nearby gold fields. The drive is on mostly unpaved roads.
French Creek Scenic Drive
Starting in McCall take this 115 mile long scenic loop drive through Burgdorf and Riggins. Many historic sites can be viewed along the way, part of the drive is on gravel roads.
Lake Coeur d'Alene National Scenic Byway
Beginning in Cataldo the 57 mile scenic drive follows State Route 3 to 97, then Interstate 90. This route affords the traveler many picturesque views of Lake Coeur d'Alene.
Lewis and Clark National Back Country Byway
While the drive is only 39 miles long it leads you through some of the most spectacular country in the Northwest. Starting in Tendoy follow the route taken by the famouse Lewis and Clark expedition of 1805 where the discovery of the northwest began. Enjoy the scenic route by following the loop through Lemhi Pass.
Loop Drive / Craters of the Moon
This is the shortest of Idaho's Scenic drives and is only 7 miles long, most of it one way. There are many spur roads to explore this geologic wonderland.
Mesa Falls Scenic Byway
Start this drive in Ashton and take the 25 mile ride to view the Grand Teton Mountain Range and Upper and Lower Mesa Falls.
Owyhee Uplands National Back Country Byway
Starting in Grand View this 145 mile scenic drive will show the traveler the beauty of the high desert. Sagebrush and grasslands open up to some magnificent views of sheer, red-walled river canyons.
Payette River National Scenic Byway
Starting in Boise this 130 mile scenic byway parallels the winding Payette River ending up in New Meadows.
Pend Oreille Scenic Route
This is the most scenic 33 miles of the U.S. Hwy. 95 / Route 200. The route teaming with wildlife follows pioneer trails and passes many historic sites, the route ends at the Idaho Montana border.
Pioneer Historic Trail
Begining in Franklin this 61 mile long byway passes through historic towns and and ends in Soda Springs.
Ponderosa Pine National Scenic Byway
Starting in Boise the drive along State Route 21 is spectacular and beautiful. Winding through the Sawtooth Mountains the 130 mile drive takes the traveler through some of the Rocky Mountains best scenery. The trail ends in the historic town of Stanley.
Salmon River National Scenic Byway
Beginning in Stanley, this 161 mile long drive follows the Salmon River and passes through Challis and ends at the Montana border. The traveler will be rewarded with spectacular mountain and river views.
Sawtooth National Scenic Byway
Starting in Shoshone follow the 116 mile long route through Ketchum and Sun Valley, the tour ends in Stanley and Parallels the Salmon River.
Teton National Scenic Byway
Begin this route in Idaho Falls and follow State routes, 31, 33, and 32 for 108 miles. This affords the journeyer magnificent views of the Teton Mountain Range.
Thousand Springs Scenic Route
This byway starts in Bliss and passes through Buhl and Filer and then ends in Twin Falls. It's 62 miles affords incredable views of Thousand Springs.
White Pine National Scenic Byway
Begining in Potlatch and winding through 50 miles of farmland, forest and one of the largest stands of white pine in North America.
